Our cluster has joined forces other Registered Student Organizations such as HOLA and Campus Alliance de La Raza to raise money for their annual book drive. In urban communities and especially within the Latino community there is an overlooked need to enforce education and the importance of reading. By providing new and slightly used books to places such as the Latin American Community Center, the children will have books that are available to them to read at any time. In this sense, we are placing emphasis on the importance of reading and equipping them with a basic tool of success. Through this experience the students learned some alarming statistics about illiteracy in the United States and have become more aware the problem within our community. Our presentation will consist of a power point presentation filled with facts and pictures about our project and facts about the community.
