My LIFE cluster came up with the idea to do a home run derby to raise money for a local homeless shelter. We rented a pitching machine and reserved Edna Dickey Field in Newark . My students did all of the necessary planning and marketing. They created awareness to their fellow AA students via Facebook groups and emails. Before the event the students asked local businesses to donate prizes for the winners. At the event 10 athletes participated in the derby so we were able to make a donation to a nearby homeless shelter. The students learned how to plan an event work together as a team to complete a task, and had fun doing it.
