Our cluster completed an awesome service project, while also getting the opportunity to hang out with a cluster from the University of Delaware 's main campus and learn a little about the marine biology department. We decided to go to Delaware beaches and spend a Sunday afternoon cleaning them. We started at Lewes Beach where we collected all sorts of trash-ranging from straws to shoes. After that we went to Cape Henlopen where we collected trash as well. After that we traveled to the Lewes campus of the University of Delaware and had a tour of the new boat, which is the only boat of its kind in the world. Through this experience my students and I were able to help the community by cleaning the beach and spreading some awareness (through signs) about the importance of clean beaches. We also had the opportunity to meet other students at the University who my students would probably not have met because they aren't on the main campus, and have a much more disconnected view of being a freshman.
