Our LIFE cluster decided to support the Delaware Walk for AIDS to raise money for HIV/AIDS research and awareness. We chose to support this fundraiser being that HIV can affect any of us regardless of race, religion, heritage or economic standing. We threw ourselves at the mercy of the organizers to assign us whatever task they deemed necessary for the event's success. At first, some were disappointed that we were assigned mainly to the clean-up crew but in the aftermath, it was realizes what an effect we had. If we were not available to aid in the clean-up the organization would have been forced to hire workers with the contributions they obtained. We calculated that for the 20 of us that volunteered and the two hours of hard labor we endured, we saved the organization over $300 (20 volunteers, 2 hours, $8 an hour). That is $300 more that can be used in a laboratory to find a cure for this horrific disease. We are all very proud to be a part of such an action.
